The Palais de Tokyo, now Europe’s largest center of contemporary art, reopens to the public in Paris this week.

Contemporary art. Modern art.

My preference in art generally runs to portraiture no matter the period, and I admire the work of Velázquez (1599-1660) and Renoir (1841-1919) equally.

Yet, modern artists are my clear favorites over the old masters when it comes to landscapes. Particularly those whose work transports me to faraway places, some that I’ve yet to see.
